Family Time, but Make It Cowboy: Our Stay at Westgate River Ranch

Looking for a family getaway that feels like a deep breath (and maybe like you're living out your 90s Oregon Trail dreams)? Here’s what it’s like to take your crew to Westgate River Ranch — Florida’s family-friendly glamping spot that’s equal parts cowboy adventure and quality time.

(TIP - have FUN with your looks for the trip - we had too much fun with our fits we couldn’t help but create this reel when we visited…)
There’s something magical about the moment your kids see a horse up close — right before asking if it can come home with you. That’s how our trip to Westgate River Ranch started: a little wild, a little muddy, and a whole lot of heart.
If you’ve never been, it’s basically a real-life cowboy resort tucked away in central Florida — the kind of place where you trade Wi-Fi for wide open skies and where “family bonding” looks like s’mores, stargazing, and pretending you know how to line dance.

Glamping, but Make It Mom-Approved
I’ll be honest: “ranch” and “toddler” don’t usually go in the same sentence around here. But Westgate somehow makes it work — like, really work.
You can choose your style of stay — cabins, lodge rooms, tent camping, or luxe glamping tents and covered wagons. We went with the glamping wagon, which had air conditioning (yay!) and comfy beds - including a bunk for the kids.
Things We Did That Made Us Feel Like Ranch People
The kids were obsessed from minute one. There’s a petting farm, pony rides, and more room to run than you could ever find in your backyard.

Every activity felt like it was designed to make family memories without an overstuffed schedule.
The airboat ride was a family favorite — part thrill, part nature show, 100% adventure.

My kids honestly loved the fact that our wagon came with a golf cart that we took all over the property. We looked so forward to rides on it to explore!
The Cowboy Adventure Park is such a fun zone for kids to play and get the wiggles out. Plus they change out the theming each season which keeps it fresh and fun!

The rodeo on Saturday night? We can't wait to come back on a weekend!
Ranch Food Hits Different
Between the table service dining at River Ranch Cattle Company and the general store with s’mores kits and Rodeo Ray's Pizza we never went hungry. You can even grill by your tent/wagon if you’re feeling it. We brought hot dogs to grill and it was perfect.
Breakfast at the wagons is included and although we could have gone for a few more high protein and less sugary options, the food was delish and we loved that it was delivered fresh and ready for us every morning.
Slowing Down (Finally)
What I loved most about Westgate wasn’t the activities (though they’re amazing). It was how it made us pause. There’s something about watching your kids having the time to play and bond with each other or laughing by a campfire as a family that resets your whole perspective.
We weren’t checking the time or rushing to the next thing. We were just there — together — and it felt like exactly what we needed. Plus there aren't TVs in the rooms, so everything about Westgate River Ranch encourages family bonding time!

So, Should You Go?
1000% yes. I've been wanting to check it out for years and it was such a fun experience. TIP - if you're looking for an extra low key experience, stay during the week. For a more vibrant and exciting experience stay on a weekend to enjoy the rodeo. Westgate River Ranch is family travel without the overwhelm — the kind of trip that gives your kids stories to tell and gives you a chance to recharge.

If your family’s been craving some space to breathe, this is it. Pack the boots, bring the snacks, and get ready for the kind of memories that stick — even after the laundry’s done.
